Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who was recently the target of a deepfake video, lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police’s Cyber Crime Cell on April 22.

“We have filed a police complaint and FIR [First Information Report] against the social media handle promoting the AI [Artificial Intelligence]-generated deepfake video of Mr. Singh,” the actor’s spokesperson shared in a statement.

The AI-generated deep fake video has the actor giving his political opinion and endorsing a particular political party from his recent Varanasi visit. In the original video, which was edited, the actor was at a fashion show in the same city.

Parts of the 41-second long original video were doctored using fake audio. The actor also alerted his followers on social media platform X asking them to beware of deepfakes.

In quick succession, Mr. Singh is the second actor to be deepfake’s victim. Less than a week ago, superstar Aamir Khan had registered a complaint in connection with a deepfake video of him purportedly seen promoting a political party.
